Dr. Shauna Lyn, M.D.
“Dr. Shauna Lyn was born and raised in Texas. She graduated from the University of Texas Health Science Center Medical School in San Antonio in 1994, and completed a residency in urology at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston in 2000. She has worked as a urologist in various parts of the United States including southern California, upstate New York, and Atlanta, Georgia where she had a great deal of experience treating sexual dysfunction in men and women. In 2003 she joined the Public Health Service, working as an epidemiologist at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the Office of Genomics. That same year, her book was published, “Smart Charts Physiology,” a textbook for medical students. In addition to her work as a clinical physician and surgeon, Dr. Lyn has helped to conduct a number of clinical research studies for people with such disorders as sexual dysfunction, urinary incontinence and seasonal allergies. Dr. Lyn also has years of experience treating men and women with hormonal imbalances using bioidentical hormones. Her former patients have described her as a compassionate listener who really gets to the root of every problem. She recently moved back to Texas to stay, joining our BH2 team.
At the age of 21 Maricela (Marcie) decided to pursue a career in medicine and became a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN). She enjoyed being a nurse so much that she decided to push forward and obtained her Associates in Applied Science in Nursing becoming a Registered Nurse in 1998. She loved her nursing profession but on a whim she was introduced to the PA profession. The PA profession was intriguing and her ambitious nature led her to her final career destination as a PA. She graduated with honors (Summa Cum Laude) from the University Of Texas Health Science Center Of San Antonio in 2002 and has been a practicing PA for the past 10 years.
She focused on cardiology for 5 years but increasingly became frustrated as the patients became younger and younger. Heart attacks and diabetes at a young age were becoming more common. At this point she transitioned into weight management in the hopes to reduce weight related diseases such as heart disease, high cholesterol, diabetes and high blood pressure. It was while working in a weight management environment that she was first introduced into natural hormone replacement therapy. She admits to being skeptical at first but was amazingly surprised as the women returned feeling much better and graciously thanked her for their symptom improvement.
The improvement in her patients led her to a different path in medicine. Her learning focus at this point transitioned and shifted into anti-aging and regenerative medicine. She admits that while she feels comfortable with the balancing of hormones there is still so much to learn and looks forward to expanding her knowledge into a more comprehensive approach to patient care as is offered with BH2.
